I am deeply grateful to the President (CEO), the President (CAO), the Director of FIRST, and all those involved for bestowing upon me the title of Honorary Professor. It is an immense honor to receive this prestigious title alongside Professor Hideki Shirakawa, Professor Hidenori Ichijo, and Professor Masanobu Kano.Since my appointment as an assistant in 1985, I have been dedicated to education and research at this university for 41 years. I could not have come this far without the unwavering support of my predecessors—including Honorary Professors Yasuharu Suematsu and Kenichi Iga—as well as my colleagues, students, and everyone associated with the university. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you.My research career has been intertwined with the research and development of the Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL), a technology pioneered by Professor Iga. Throughout my career, I have consistently focused on its commercialization, performance enhancement, and application to optical communications and sensing fields. As the newly integrated Institute of Science Tokyo attracts high expectations, I feel a renewed sense of responsibility to pass on our rich academic traditions to the next generation. Remaining ever grateful to the university, I am committed to contributing to the nurturing of young researchers, the promotion of industry-academia collaboration, and the further development of our institution to the best of my ability.
