The event was co-organized with the International Workshop on Nanodevice Technologies (IWNT), which reflects one of Hiroshima University\u2019s research strengths in semiconductor technology.
\n\u3000The symposium opened with messages from Dr. Mitsuo Ochi, President of Hiroshima University; Mr. Koji Tawara, Director of the Office for University Research Infrastructure, Science and Technology Policy Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT); and Prof. Shinji Kaneko, Vice President of Hiroshima University. This was followed by an introduction to the RCBE by Prof. Hiroyuki Kagechika, Director of the Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering, Institute of Science Tokyo, the representative institution of the RCBE.
\n\u3000Over the two-day program, a total of 15 invited lectures, including 10 by international researchers, were presented (12 under ISBE, of which 8 were by overseas speakers). In addition, 123 posters were presented, and the total number of participants reached 326, including 24 from overseas.
\n\u3000In the biomedical, materials, and medical application sessions, topics included oral health improvement through probiotics, design of microenvironments for organoid formation, optical imaging for blood flow and wound diagnostics, chemical\/biosensors based on supramolecular structures and so on.
\n\u3000In the semiconductor-related sessions, presentations covered a wide range from basic to applied research, including chemical image sensors for bio-applications, atomic-scale processing of MoS\u2082, nondestructive observation of defects in power semiconductors using synchrotron X-rays, molecular dynamics analysis of Ni\u2013W alloys, et al.
\n\u3000Among the 69 poster presentations eligible for awards, eight were selected for Poster Awards, which were presented at the closing ceremony.
\n\u3000The symposium provided valuable opportunities for in-person exchanges between overseas and domestic researchers, strengthening collaborations among members of the RCBE.
