The mission of Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology (FIRST) is to create innovative industrial technologies by fusing various research fields such as mechanical engineering, information science and technology, electrical and electronic engineering, metallurgy, environmental engineering, disaster prevention engineering, social engineering, chemical engineering and materials science, which will eventually contribute to affluent society in the future<\/span>. In order to fulfull this goal, cooperative liaison with industries creates effective incentives. <\/span> For those who plan research cooperation, Tokyo Tech provides following programs. <\/span><\/p>\n

a) Collaborative Research Program<\/span><\/h2>\n

Under this program, a company researcher(s) and a Tokyo Tech faculty member(s) carry out research jointly on an equal level. This may be conducted at either Tokyo Tech or the company, or both.<\/p>\n

b) Collaborative Research Chair \/ Division Program<\/span><\/h2>\n

A new collaborative research chair or<\/span> research division can be established on campus. Together with funds from a sponsoring company, Tokyo tech can accept company researchers as specially appointed faculty members, and the university and the company together undertake cooperative research.<\/span><\/p>\n

c) Sponsored Research Program<\/span><\/h2>\n

Under this program, our faculty member(s) is commissioned by a company to carry out research as a part of his job at the university. The research results will be reported to the company by the researcher.<\/p>\n

d) Research Alliance Program<\/span><\/h2>\n

Under this program, Tokyo Tech and the company conclude a comprehensive agreement to conduct organizational collaborative researchs and other collaborative activities.<\/p>\n

e) Donation for Research<\/span><\/h2>\n

Donations made by companies or benefactors support campus education and research activities. If you wish, donations can be channeled to support specific research. You can also attach conditions such as requesting a report on research progress or achievement. However, asking for the patent right that may result from the research is not possible. Donations should not be provided to demand the reward allocation.<\/p>\n

The Japanese government provides tax deduction to those who have donated money. For details, please contact the following division.<\/p>\n
